Aaron Sylvain, Race Director.
As a Road Runner's Club of America Certified Race Director and a former Certified Fitness Trainer, Aaron brings a unique perspective and passion to the world of ultrarunning. While his running achievements do not boast numerous ultramarathon accolades, Aaron aspires to share his experiences as a middle-of-the-pack runner, aiming to be a source of inspiration for others to achieve the seemingly impossible.
Aaron began his ultrarunning journey at the age of forty, overcoming the initial challenge of not being able to run a sustained mile. Juggling training, family commitments, and a forty-hour work week, he successfully completed his first sixty-mile ultramarathon after months of dedicated effort. The fitness, mental fortitude, and confidence gained through ultrarunning have become the cornerstone of Race Away Events' mission – inspiring fellow ultrarunners, especially newcomers, to embrace the transformative challenges and benefits that ultra-trail running offers.
Race Away Events extends an invitation for you to join the continuous pursuit of learning, improvement, and the sheer joy that the sport of ultrarunning and its vibrant community offers.
The variety of terrain in trail running develops lower body power, core strength, balance, and agility. Trail running provides a greater challenge for the neuromuscular system involving muscle coordination, proprioception, and muscle activation. This is an important factor as our ability to balance and maintain muscle mass is linked to longevity and quality of life as we age.
Trail running builds a setting of adventure, exploration, and an escape from routine that keeps your mind engaged. Being immersed in nature has been shown to increase creativity and problem solving while time alone on the trails allows runners to clear their thoughts and process information without interruption.
Completing your first ultramarathon can be one of the most fulfilling personal achievements. An ultra-trail race scheduled on your calendar will keep you inspired and motivated to train and realize all the benefits that trail running has to offer.
